About STARS Accelerated High School

A School of Choice

STARS Accelerated High School provides an optional setting for high school students whose needs are not met in the traditional school.  This setting is quite different from the traditional high school.  The school’s most  important aspects are its flexibility and personalized self-paced courses.

When  students successfully complete all the requirements for graduation, they earn a diploma from STARS.  Our students celebrate their success with formal graduation in the fall and  spring.  Over 1000 students have earned their high school diplomas at STARS.

Accreditation

Students at STARS Accelerated High School  are required to complete the same graduation requirements as all students in the state of Texas.

Our school is accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Classroom Structure

Classes at STARS Accelerated High School are not delineated by grade level.  Students are enrolled in each subject area with a state-certified teacher responsible for multi-course instruction.  Each student works on up to five academic courses at a time.  Students receive specific course outlines (syllabi) when they enroll in a course.  Taught on an individual basis, students are considered to have mastered a course when they have reached 80 percent (minimum passing grade.)  Students are not limited to a specific number of credits each trimester.  As students work at their own pace, they can complete a course in six to nine weeks.  When the requirements for a particular course are completed, students may start another class.

Military-Connected Families

STARS is a great option for military-connected families!

The small class sizes help students adjust to a new community quickly. The accelerated curriculum is also great for students whose credits may not have transferred well from one district to another.
