Enrollment and Registration
Checklist of required documentation needed to enroll for all students:
- Copy of your Child’s Birth Certificate
- Shot Records
- Child’s Social Security Card
- Proof of Residence
- Valid Government-issued I.D. (parent/guardian)
- Proof of Income (Pre-K only)
Eligibility requirements for free public-school prekindergarten:
Must meet at least one (1) of state eligibility criteria:
- is unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
- is educationally disadvantaged (eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program, economically disadvantaged; or
- is homeless, as defined by 42 U.S.C. Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or
- is the child of an active-duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
- is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
- is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Texas DFPS (foster care) following an adversary hearing, has been in foster care in another state or territory, if the child resides in this state ; or
- is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award such as: o a peace officer under Texas Government Code, §3106.002 o a firefighter under Texas Government Code, §3106.003 o an emergency medical first responder under Texas Government Code, §3106.004; or
- is the child of a person employed as a classroom teacher at a public primary or secondary school in the school district that offers a pre-K class under this section.
